Cov Cath Introduces New Head Football Coach
Bryan Burke - The River City News
The Covington Catholic football program introduced its new head coach, Eddie Eviston, on Tuesday afternoon at the school.

Eviston takes over the job after leaving Georgetown College where he served as offensive coordinator last season. He was also the Newport Central Catholic head football coach from 2010-13 and won the Class 2A state title in 2010 and 2012. Eviston was also a star quarterback at NewCath and at Georgetown College where he was named NAIA National Player of the Year three times.

“Quarterback is very important and becomes more important on every level,” he said of his former position and his ability to develop talent at quarterback. “You need that quality guy. You need a guy that you can trust because he is basically your coach on the field. The more he can do, the more he keeps the defense guessing.”

Former CovCath coach Dave Wirth resigned from the post in late January.
Eviston met and talked with his new players on Tuesday and was encouraged by what he saw from them.

“The kids asked what kind of offense and defense we're going to run,” Eviston said when asked what he talked about with his team when they met him today. “They asked about our off-season program. It's a good sign that they're concerned about things. Anytime there is a change, there is a little bit of fear so we're trying to get over that threshold of fear and we're getting after it.”
