Dixie Falls to Trinity in Class 6A Football Final
Jason Finnell - The River City News
Trinity, the Louisville football powerhouse, joined Highlands in winning its twenty-third state title on Saturday, defeating Dixie in the Class 6A final, 47-14.

Shamrocks’ senior running back Donald Brooks – who found the end zone five times on the evening – ran away from the Colonels’ and into the state record books on a night Trinity’s defense made Dixie senior standout Drew Moore uncomfortable in the pocket all game long.

If the Colonels were nervous, it showed on their first play. Standing in the shotgun, Moore corralled a high snap, falling on the ball and leaving his team to fight another down. Though on the ensuing play,

Moore did what he had done so well all season: Keeping the ball on a zone read-option, he took the snap 66 yards to the Trinity 15. Two plays later, it was Moore again for a Colonels’ touchdown and an early 6-0 lead.

Dixie’s lead was short-lived. Taking advantage of good field position, Shamrocks’ junior wide receiver Canner Carrio took senior quarterback Ryan Young’s screen pass at midfield down to the Colonels’ nine.

On the next play, Brooks ran in the direct snap and a 7-6 lead.
