Highlands Begins Defense of AAA Crown With Win
11/7/2005 - by Jake Donelan
Fort Thomas, KY - The playoffs started out with a boom at David Cecil Memorial Stadium, many booms in fact. The Bluebirds cannon fired off eight times on scoring plays as they routed the visiting West Jessamine Colts in first round action Friday.

Junior running back Jordan Kramer only needed the first half to amass 213 yards rushing on 13 carries, two of which took him into the endzone.

The faster and more athletic 'Birds took more than just the scoreboard in the first half. They outgained the Colts 348-33 in the first half. Most of that yardage on the ground.

Somewhere in the mix, senior quarterback Chase Cecil found time to complete five passes and two for touchdowns.

The Colts had a hard enough time gaining first downs. Their first, first down of the game came with just seconds remaining in the second quarter.

A running clock was implemented in the second half after the Bluebirds were up by 45 points. At the sound of the final cannon blast, the Bluebirds won 55-13.

Next week the 'Birds will host Franklin County who stands at 10-1. The Flyers beat South Oldham on Friday, a team the 'Birds only beat by 1 point a couple of weeks ago.
